Choosing your burn cake size

Measure the flat top of your cake before selecting the kit size.

Choose an image size smaller than the cake surface so there is enough room for the piped buttercream border. This border supports the top wafer layer and creates the air gap needed between the two edible images.

Both printed layers will be prepared to suit the selected kit size.

Production time

Most completed orders placed before 10am on a business day are prepared for same-day dispatch.

Orders requiring custom artwork, design changes or draft approval may require additional time. Production begins once all required images and information have been received and any requested draft has been approved.

Storage, assembly and important safety information

Keep both edible image layers flat and sealed in their original packaging at room temperature. Store them somewhere cool and dry, away from sunlight, heat and moisture. Do not refrigerate or freeze the unused images.

Keep the wafer-paper burn layer completely dry. Moisture absorbed from icing or refrigeration can prevent it from burning correctly.

Apply the premium icing-paper reveal image to the cake first. Use a piped buttercream border to support the top wafer layer and create an air gap between the two images. Add the wafer-paper layer as close to the reveal time as practical.

A burn-away cake uses a real open flame and must only be lit by a responsible adult. Place the cake on a stable, heat-resistant surface in a well-ventilated area.

Keep the cake away from balloons, paper decorations, curtains, loose clothing and other flammable materials. Keep children and pets at a safe distance.

Use a long-handled lighter, never leave the flame unattended and keep water or a damp cloth nearby as a precaution.

Allow the flame and remaining material to cool completely. Carefully remove any ash or burned residue before photographing, cutting or serving the cake.

Always follow the complete assembly and safety instructions supplied with your kit.

Burn cake questions

Does this include a cake?
No. This product includes the two printed edible image layers needed to create the burn-away effect. The cake, icing and decorations are not included.
What is included in the kit?
You will receive one printed wafer-paper burn layer, one printed icing-paper reveal layer and instructions explaining how to assemble and use them.
Which image goes on top?
The wafer-paper image is the top layer. This is the image everyone sees first and the layer that burns away.
Which image is underneath?
The premium icing-paper image is the hidden reveal. It sits underneath the wafer layer and appears after the top image burns away.
Do I need to upload two images?
For fully custom kits, yes. Upload one image for the top burn-away layer and a different image for the hidden reveal. Some products include a ready-made top design and only require a reveal image.
Will my uploads be clearly labelled?
Yes. Your artwork page will have separate upload areas for the Top Burn-Away Image and Hidden Reveal Image.
Are both layers made from the same material?
No. The top image is printed on wafer paper because it is designed to burn away. The hidden image is printed on premium icing paper for a brighter, more detailed reveal.
Are the images pre-cut?
Yes. Both images arrive prepared in your selected shape and size, ready for you to assemble on your cake.
Can I personalise the images?
Personalisation depends on the product selected. Enter any requested name, date, age or wording in the available fields.
Can I refrigerate the assembled cake?
Moisture can prevent the wafer layer from burning correctly. If your cake needs refrigeration, chill it before adding the top wafer layer and add the wafer as close to reveal time as practical.
Is adult supervision required?
Yes. This product involves an open flame and must only be assembled and lit by a responsible adult following the supplied instructions.
